How To Enable or Disable All Right Click Context Menus In Windows 10
Today I’m gonna tell you how to enable or disable all right-click context menus in Windows 10. I’m talking about desktop context menu, right-click context menu of files and folders, and other File Explorer context menus. Yes! It sounds crazy, but it is possible that you can disable all Windows 10 context menus. Or if these right click menus are already disabled accidentally or by some malicious tool, then you can also enable all those menus. If you are getting curious to know how it can be done, then here are those two options that help to enable or disable File Explorer context menus in Windows 10: Registry Editor and Local Group Policy Editor. We already know these two are core features of Windows that store tons of tweaks. Among those tweaks, enabling and disabling all right-click context menus is also a wonderful tweak.
Both the options are safe to use. I have covered step by step guide for both the options to disable or enable Windows 10 context menus. Still, a system restore should be created to overcome from any unexpected change
Option 1: Enable or Disable All Right Click Context Menus In Windows 10 via Local Group Policy Editor
This option is simpler than option 2 and that’s why I like it. Here are the steps:
1). You can open Local Group Policy Editor (also known as LGPO or LocalGPO) using Search box, PowerShell, Command Prompt or Run Command.
2). There is a File Explorer folder under User Configuration menu. We need to access that folder. Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer.
3). File Explorer has ‘Remove File Explorer’s default context menu‘ Setting or say option. You can see that Setting highlighted in the image above. Access that Setting and double-click on it.
4). Remove File Explorer’s default context menu window will open. Here, you will see that Not Configured option is already set. Change this option with Enabled option and save it.
This is it! You have successfully disabled all File Explorer context menus. Doing right-click on desktop or file/folder won’t show the context menu.
Whenever you want to get back all context menus of Windows 10 File Explorer, you can follow all the above steps, and then select Not Configured or Disabled option in “Remove File Explorer’s default context menu” window.
Option 2: Enable or Disable File Explorer’s Context Menus In Windows 10 via Registry Editor
1). Open Registry Editor of Windows 10 and then look for Explorer key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER root key. You can copy and paste the following address in the address bar of Registry to jump to Explorer key directly:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
2). Do a right click on this Explorer key > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. When DWORD value is created, rename it and set its name as ‘NoViewContextMenu’.
3). Double click this DWORD value and change its Value data from ‘0’ to ‘1’.
Now sign out or Restart File Explorer or PC and see the magic. You will find that right-clicking on desktop/file/folder is not opening the context menu. That means it is disabled.
To re-enable all context menus, you can repeat all the steps and then add ‘0’ in Value data of NoViewContextMenu DWORD value and restart PC or File Explorer.
So now you know two different options to disable all right-click context menus in Windows 10, you can try them and also help others. Just make sure you have carefully followed every single step and then everything will be good. As whole control is in your hand, so you can decide whether you want to permanently enable or disable all File Explorer context menus or need to disable/enable them temporary.
